Space Jam: A New Legacy

In this thrilling follow-up to the 1996 classic, basketball superstar LeBron James teams up with Bugs Bunny to win a high-stakes basketball game against a rogue artificial intelligence who has kidnapped LeBron's son. Luma's expertise came into play when crafting the vivid and immersive full CG environments for two essential settings: the magical server-verse and Dom's bedroom.

During the design stage, Luma delved into the exploration of digital environments, art installations, and stylized interpretations of supercomputers. The brief was to create the server-verse, a digitized realm where AL-G controlls every aspect. To make this world stand out, Luma focused on a vibrant and unique aesthetic, inspired by space filled with mesmerizing lights, fiber optics, and holographic technologies.

The aim was to construct an expansive and otherworldly environment that conveyed the sheer magnitude of physical disc space within a server. Each planet within the server-verse featured its own meticulously detailed geometric landscapes and simulated volumetric atmospheres, adding depth and richness to the digital realm.

The floor design began as sleek glass surfaces reflecting the virtual surroundings. The team drew inspiration from audio equalizers reimagined in a three dimensional form and incorporated digital elements that expanded the virtual space and evoked the sensation of digital ocean waves. The glass layer itself was skillfully crafted with curved and concentric lines reminiscent of basketball court markings and seamlessly blended traditional design elements with futuristic visuals. To further enhance the futuristic feel, Luma added a finely detailed laser grid pattern that dynamically pulsed, accompanied by particle systems that responded to changes in lighting conditions.

Central to the environment was a captivating holographic platform that dynamically transformed Dom into a basketball star. Luma meticulously created geometrical representations of holographic rings and implemented user interface systems, granting animators precise control over the mesmerizing visuals.

Luma also handled the CG holographic elements for Dom's video game. The game is a visually stunning and action-packed virtual world filled with dynamic challenges and gameplay. The game's design seamlessly blends cutting-edge graphics, futuristic technology, and imaginative elements, providing an immersive experience for both Dom and the audience.
